For years now, Florida has been home to some of the best beaches and beach towns in the United States. Just recently, Realty Trac released a special report ranking the top beach town housing markets in the U.S for 2014. The report took into account and considered air quality, crime rates, homes values and weather. Ultimately, our very own Key Biscayne just cracked the top 20 list coming in ranked at the 20th position.
Initially, the study started with Realty Trac selecting the top 100 best beach towns in the U.S. based on four criteria. They took into account average temperature, crime rates, percent of days with good air quality and percent of sunny days. Based on this criteria, the top 100 best beach towns were than sorted by median value of single family homes and condos, from lowest to highest. Surprisingly, the top 20 list of best beach towns in the U.S. did not have a market in which the median home values exceeded $1 million. Key Biscayne did have the highest median home value with an estimated average of $922,202.
